If you want to be an excellent, amazing healer as you put it then any of the healing classes will do that for you. It all boils down to a preference in each of the style of play. Druids are HoT kings, Paladins are all about massive, single target heals where as Shaman and Holy Priest are multi talented but excel in AoE healing. Disc Priest is damage prevention and thus makes it very mana efficient. But for leveling I'd say either Shaman or Paladin are the easiest perhaps. If you don't feel up to grouping you can offspec Elemental/Enhancement or Prot/Ret and be effective at solo questing. The two classes have mail and plate armor plus their own healing spells. So either of the two classes will allow you either option depending on if you are in a mood for groups or not. Thats not to say Priest or Druid can't solo though. I've soloed levels as Raylu while she was in her Holy spec. It was slow going and kept me dungeon bound most of the time but its not impossible.
Just picked up Cata today. I had it pre ordered at EB and they gave me a poster to go with it. One thing about rated BGs that I did not consider and I'm hoping is not the case is whether or not we need to build our own teams for them like people did with Arena. I just wanna jump in and play at my own pace and not have to rely on a guild or big group. If I'm gonna have to do that again I may as well just go back to raiding instead. The whole point of these rated BGs for me was to be able to play on my own time without a schedule. I'll be damned if I have to join set groups to do PvP. I hope I am wrong though.

I healed as Priest and Shaman. I always found Priest to be more fun personally. Shamans are great at regenerating Mana (At least they were no sure about the changes) so they never ran out of Mana. But by the end, Hort had so much mana and regen it was insane. He never ran out in dungeons unless the group just REALLY sucked.

No one runs out of mana anymore. We have like 30k and heals cost 1k at most, most are less. And at lv 30ish, I have, what, 2k mana and my heals are between 100-300 mana. In Outland suddenly healing becomes harder because the mobs hit like they mean it, but with Druid all I had to do was slap a Rejuv on it and I was good. I don't like Shaman healing because they don't have a HoT (or at least not yet) and having only a long cast time heal is pretty much like FFXI, but unlike FFXI your tank can die in four hits if you're not watching.

We run out of mana now though. I've done two dungeons (Blackrock Caverns and Vortex Pinnacle) and I have been dangerously close to going oom on a few occasions. One healer in the guild doesn't like it but I love it. Forces you to plan your heals.
I have pics of Blackrock which I will show soon but I forgot to take pics of Vortex Pinnacle. I will say this about VP though. It looks like Sky from FFXI. Except way better ;D

Hm, Naro has something to look forward to then. I still don't have a mana problem on Warlock...I've still yet to even come close to running low and I break 13k DPS now. Which is sickening. <.< I have 50k HP and 40k MP at Lv82. Granted, I have Life Tap (and it is *vastly* improved) but I don't find myself needing it much.
I'm kinda disappointed about Blizzard's promises of Crowd Control being required. I've yet to see that. We did Blackrock Caverns and the Stonecore, and although the bosses do require some actual strategy (thank GOD) for once...you still can win every single fight by AoEing. Maybe those two dungeons are poor examples?
I'm thoroughly thankful for the new questing features that continue the quest chains on the field instead of having to go back to town/village 50billion times just to be told to go back where you were and collect/talk to someone/think else that you could've done in the first place. It's woefully underused, but still appreciated.
But still... thew new Old World quests are putting the Cataclysm ones to shame. There is a good flow to them now in the "lowbie" areas and lots of variety and some ridiculous mini games, and it makes leveling a new character actually refreshing and fun. But sadly there's not enough of it in Cataclysm areas. The most unique quest we did was a kind of ghetto platforming/jousting quest in Hyjal, but in the end, it's still jousting, and we did that already. There are far too many "go here and kill six of these." And I specifically chose "6" because they seem to like that number. Which in itself is a boon because we all know it used to be 12 and up.
We were trying to get 84 by today but considering it takes 4 MILLION exp to level from 82 to 83, it didn't happen. Oh well. We did over 130 quests in Hyjal which got us about 1.75 levels, the other .25 came from stocking up on dailies the day before. We're in Deepholm now, which looks to be smaller, so I don't think we'll get as much exp there. Quests only give 35k-40k exp.

We were CCing in Vortex Pinnacle. Not so much in Blackrock as you say. There were some groups where we sheeped and sapped in one pull and it was interesting. So far I am liking these instances. The boss fights seem like mini raid encounters in a way.
I don't have any problem with the amount of exp it takes to level. Yes 4 million exp is a big number but the amount that quests give and the amount of quests out there makes up for it. And dungeons give decent exp too.

I don't see me hitting level 85 anytime soon. I suck as a rogue, and I don't know how to CC when needed. Right now, I dunno what I need to do.
I'm still looking to level up a new shaman healer for now.

It can't be that hard. Just stealth, get up close and use that distracting ability to have the enemy look away from you, get behind and hit your Sap. Then the tank pulls and you DPS away one mob at a time. Besides you don't NEED to group to get 85. Solo questing works too. I'd reccomend you stick with Rogue. You already put the time in to get it to 80. It would kinda suck to have to work your way to 85 from a low level toon. Your call though.
I hope to be 85 over the weekend. Before Monday anyways. Before the rated BGs start. If I can even do them that is.

Actually, don't even worry about CC and Sap and stuff. Its still not being used. XD
Dinged 83 tonight and then got my Worgen to 13. I specced him Assassination for now. Gonna give the three trees some play time and see what I like.

Really? o.O Well, maybe I'll give it a shot sometime. I'm not in a hurry, I'm still bored of Tairotha right now.
I found assassination to be boring at low levels. Combat is sorta fun, especially if you get adds, and Subtlety is seriously tons of fun, and right off the bat now too. Shadowstep will make you giggle in delight as you poof and magically appear directly behind a mob. It's seriously the best ability in the game, IMO.
I'm gonna attempt to put my Goblin shaman on Demon Soul server for now. It's PvP, but hell, one of my goals is to get better at PvP anyways, and I plan on doing a lot of it. I hope I can start PvP at level 10, but I doubt it. I didn't get out of the goblin intro until level 13 last time.
Also, as Caller predicted, I deleted a few toons on Doomhammer. We are not getting a free character migration, so I decided deletion wasn't all that bad compared to $25 a pop to move them off the server. I will make a worgen huntress soon. I will make a new Draenei mage. And, a new Alliance paladin.
Still looking for a good horde server. Since WG and Tol Barad are now 1 vs 1, the Horde on Area 52 never, ever wins anymore. So, I'm annoyed by that. I may look into Turalyon server again. We shall see.
As for Demon Soul, I just wanted a quiet low population server to put her own as I level. No Queues. And who knows. Maybe I can gank some gnomes. *evil laugh*

Other than day one of Cataclysm I have not had a single login que. And that first one was only five minutes. But with the weekend coming that might change. Who knows. Its nothing like how Wrath started out where everyday was a 45 minute lineup to play XD

Tip: If you have any rest exp, you may wanna try archaeology. I'm getting 22k per Survey. That's more efficient than quests! But it uses your rest exp so keep that in mind. Also it gets kinda redundant after awhile. We're halfway to 84 and almost done with Deepholm. "Princess" Theredras' mother is in this zone and she is piiiiiised at us. The quest rewards are actually better than some dungeon blues. Which is surprising to me. Not all of them are, of course. But I replaced two Stonecore blues already. My average item level is 309, 66k HP and 50k MP. But the mobs are starting to hit harder, though that may be because I'm a clothie. Got slammed for 12k a hit in some of those quests.
