Started my trial but I got bored after getting level 2. So I shut down and installed Diablo 2 and played that instead. XD

Well that was productive. I still prefer XI's combat system over WoW's really though.

I don't. FF's is way too slow for my tastes. I can't believe I actually liked this game once upon a time.
But to be fair its not really the battle system that bored me in the end. The fact that it is an MMO and has that style of play thats typical of the genre is what made me quit early on. You know. Kill rabbit after rabbit, or in the case of WoW, fetch quest after fetch quest. All to get to the goal of a level cap. I'm just tired of MMOs really.

Updates they are a comming. www.playonline.com/pcd/topics/ff11us/detail/5298/detail.html2 new Avatars for Summoners. New better call ability for Beast a NEW world is being created to live side by side with Vanadiel. I dont know tons about it yet, but I hear that you can switch back and forth, and its for high level players to have new challenges and missons beyond the same old 8 years of same old territories. A few of the lower populated servers are being merged into busier servers. I dont know which worlds are being merged, nor where they will end up. I think they are trying to get ready to compete against the FFIV that is coming. Finally answering the cries of the high level player that is now bored with 12 jobs at level 75 and rank 10 everywhere.

Wait a sec. You mean Odin wasn't added as a Summon in ToAU? I know he was in that expansion I just assumed he was eventually added as a summon.
And what is Campaign?

Hah, I see they finally gave credence to the idea of Avatars being summoned for the sole purpose of dealing damage and then vanishing like, y'know, all Summoners before (Yuna doesn't count <.<). Though obliterating the Summoner's MP for somewhat useful abilities (and unreliable, how often do you remember Zantetsuken actually working? that's what I thought) seems kinda...not good.
And Odin was a *boss* in ToAU, or rather an optional one, no summon. So was Alexander actually, he was the zomgspoilers Final Boss of AU.
Campaign is similar to Besieged, except you go around past Vana'diel and defend (or reclaim) outposts from Beastmen Invasions. Waves of beastmen would attack the outpost and you and a bunch of NPC helpers need to fight them off. You couldn't get Skillups in this, but you got a pretty decent amount of exp for it, usually around 1k for about 15 minutes of work. Partying is still the more efficient way to gain exp of course but this let soloists get some work done while waiting to find one. It was pretty fun, and didn't lag *nearly* as much as Besieged did.

I liked Campaign, a lot. It was crazy like Besieged, but like Caller said, not nearly as laggy. You could spam heal NPCs, and get bonuses for it. You could even solo mobs without dying within seconds. That applied even for me, the lowly WHM. Makes you feel all proud when you actually kill something too. XD

Besieged was a laggy beast. I remember. Speaking of which I was on Youtube just looking up some random FFXI videos and found this.
They obviously added this long after I left cause I did Besieged several times and never saw this. Pretty big fucker. ;D

Can't believe the whole new level 99 cap. Was kinda surprised considering how strongly they were always against it... but then again, this is SE. Probably just trying to squeeze out as much as possible from FFXI before XIV hits now.

I read about that somewhere. I wonder if there will be merit points upon hitting the new level cap. I'm also kinda surprised that they are not pushing for 100 instead of just 99. It seems strange to be level 99 and have a 49 sub. Being 100/50 just seems cleaner. But then again, there are probably a ton of level 50 abilities or spells that would make a class pretty OP by having it as a sub job.

Ah yeah, sub jobs! I didn't even consider that, ha! I was contemplating having a look at the game again after the update, but you just gave me a very good reason not to; I DO NOT want to level Ninja (or any other SJ for that matter) up to 49. Not that I would anyway, I'm definitely done with FFXI. I will be looking at XIV though... even if it won't be as hardcore as before.

I would HOPE they'd reduce tnl or increase the exp per mob...most merit parties averaged about 10k-12k and hour so if we assume the same from 75-99....and assume that it'd be 30k and up from 76 onward (I forget the tnl for 74-75) then it could take upwards of 3 hours to level...and then multiply that by 23 (let's assume most people by now are 1 tnl to 76 anyway). That's assuming that tnl doesn't rise exponentially too.

Was sorta excited about level 99 until Caller reminded me "LFG". Eh, no thanks. Oh, and why they chose a level 99 cap instead of 100? I'm guessing because level 99 has been the cap in all FF games that I know of. It's just their thing.
