There are 6 power plants in trouble in Japan. 3 are in serious trouble and at least 1 will be a complete loss. The one they are pumping sea water into will be a complete loss. They have already had partial core melt downs and are working hard to prevent yet another melt down in the same plant. Once sea water is used its game over for those reactors. The 2nd plant south of there is dealing with cracked foundations as well, and loss of power to the pumping stations that use water to keep the reactors cool. A 3rd suffered from a great deal of structural damage and it may take months and months IF they can save it.
If our servers are on the west coast, we may be up in a few weeks to maybe a month. If we are on the East coast it may be a very long time before we see that game again, unless someone offers to shift servers away from Japan.
Guess its time to dust off some old baby games and keep myself busy.

If they are down longer than the week they are telling us now, I'm gonna just go back to WoW until things are settled.
I'm assuming since servers were not immediately taken down, the servers were not in the destruction zone.

it has been rumored that the servers will be back up this weekend. I guess the debt ridden economy is forcing folks to start using electric even tho the government is still asking folks to conserve. Several car companies will be trying to reopen production, and several other plants will be trying to reopen. Their workers cannot go without pay or work. The economy is falling fast as well as the stock market due to everyone sitting still and not being proactive.
So, see ya this weekend. I donated my April fee of POL to Americares. I added more too it, but there ya go.

I donated to AMericaCares which is good, but RedCross is also good. you must specify that you want it to go to Japan or they just chuck it into a pot and it gets spread far and wide. RedCross was there when my kid was burned out of her home. Gave her food, cash, certificates and paid for a motel. They rock! I miss playing.

I donated my APril and May subscription to the Red Cross just in case they weren't up and even if they do come up, it's worth it. I feel really bad for those people and bravo to those brave ones that are staying in that plant and keeping those rods covered. They're losing this battle, and they will die, but they're saving untold thousands more.

Geezus I never even heard about those people staying in the plant. Those mofos are heroes in my book! I just sent 20 bucks to the Red Cross for Japan. Whats also scary is the tsunami thats headed for the west coast of Canada and the US. I have a cousin living in Vancouver so he may get hit by it. The damage obviously won't be as bad as what happened in Japan but still.
On topic for FFXI. I'm a huge fan of the new BLM AF. The hat is great and the coat is sexy. The pants aren't as clown like as before but they are still striped. ;D

forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/3374MARCH 25th FFXI will be back. See below. Restoration of Game Services (Mar. 22) As part of power conservation measures enacted following the Tohoku earthquake, our game servers were shut down on Mar. 13, 2011 10:00 (GMT) and services for FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY XI, and PlayOnline (hereafter referred to as "these services") were temporarily suspended. We have determined a date for the restoration of these services, and would like to share this information with you. Operating the servers for these services makes up 11.6% of the total power consumed by our Tokyo office (based on February 2011 records). We have shut down our air conditioning system (8.8%) and enacted other power conservation measures, such as reducing lighting in our offices, to achieve over 10% in energy usage reductions. With these energy saving measures in place, we will be able to bring our servers back online and restore service to FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY XI, and PlayOnline on Mar. 25, 2011 11:00 (GMT). All other services, such as those offered on the PlayOnline website, that were temporarily suspended will also be restored at the same time. Please be aware, however, that we may once again be required to suspend services in the event that the power situation worsens. We offer our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension of these services, and thank you for your understanding. As noted in our original notice regarding the suspension of these services, customers will not be charged any monthly fees for FINAL FANTASY XI throughout the April billing cycle. We at the Square Enix group are trying to act in a proactive manner in order to provide support towards the relief and restoration efforts in the face of this unprecedented disaster while providing reliable service to our customers, and we thank you for your understanding and support.

FFXI will be back today. They are going to be trying to see if the power grid will hold up for game play. They still have rolling black outs in Tokyo, so be prepared for some hiccups till Japan gets back on its feet. Also a huge major issue at the other power plant, so the government is still asking for cut backs and sacrifices.
