So they released this on the PS3 and its available for $5.99. And get this! You can play it on your PS3 AND your PSP! I am so getting this sucker and popping it on my PSP for work. I have the office to myself a lot of the time and get rather bored. This would be the perfect game to play. I never got all the characters in the first one and so this would be perfect.
Now they need to release 2. I will play through it again as I much prefer it over the others.
This has gotten me to realize that I have never finished 3. I just didnt like it as much. And what is sad is I even bought 4 and 5. But do not want to play them out of order. Does 3 get better? I havnt even gotten the castle or whatever it is in that game yet. I think I am right at that point though.
I hear 5 redeems the series and goes back to being like 2.

Ok I bought it, and have not been able to put it down. I forgot how much I loved the Suikoden games. And being able to lounge in bed, or at work and play is awesome.

Suikoden 1? I loved the game myself, but not too many others I know did. Caller tried it, and got bored. If you did like Suikoden 1, I would suggest looking into Suikoden 4, because Ted reappears in that game, and totally kicks butt. He's not a main character, but he's certainly no less awesome. I loved Suikoden 3, but it's the all time hated game of the series. Most people can't stand it. Don't worry about playing them out of order. Play in chronological order... that order is Suikoden 4, Suikoden Tactics, Suikoden 5, Suikoden 1, Suikoden 2, and then Suikoden 3. They never picked up where 3's storyline ended. I'm trying to play in chronological order myself but... I'm stuck on Tactics. I still need to beat Suikoden Tactics... I will someday soon. I love SRPGs and Suikoden, but the battles take so damn long to complete. Never mind the absurdly high percentage rate that a character can die forever if they are KO'd. What I saw of 5, I absolutely loved. But, I'm trying to beat Tactics before I play 5 again. I got about half way through 5 before I realized I screwed up and missed characters, so I stopped. One of 5's main characters is in Suikoden 2 as well, Georg Prime? He's a main character in 5, however he seems to go missing for long amounts of time. If they did this for PS3/PSP, I certainly hope they do the same to Suikoden 2. With it's going price on Ebay and it's rarity, they really need to do that. I just got lucky and bought it when it was brand new... so glad I did. I have all the games for the series except for the newest game and Suikoden Card stories... love the damn series.

I just have 1-5. Didnt get the tactics game, or have any intention of playing this new one they are making yet. It looks... Odd.
I didnt realize that was the order of the story. If that is the case then what is the point of carrying your data over from one to the next?

In Suikoden 1, it allows you to recruit the hero of Suikoden 1 in Suikoden 2. He's there, near the end of the game, and he totally kicks ass. They screw his display name up though... as they do in Suikoden Tactics. I think his name takes the first letter of his first name, and replaces the first letter of his last name, so you get something like TcDohl instead of McDohl. I think that was his last name...
The saved data transfer from 2 to 3 is a minor change, does nothing fancy except for implanting the the main character's name in Suikoden 2 into the dialogue of 3. Nothing of any real importance. I only remember seeing his name once in Suikoden 3...
I think the memory card data transfer stopped there, up until you go from Suikoden 4 to Suikoden Tactics.
The hero of Suikoden 4 is a recruitable character in Tactics, and it gives him the same name you gave him in 4, except with spaces... which is ANNOYING. So in mine, it comes out as L a z l o. >.<
I don't think you can transfer any data to 5. At least not that I remember.
It essentially just effects the games that do occur in chronological order, and sequel order. Those games who jumped back in time got left out. You may be able to import some data into 5, but I honestly just cannot remember.

The only Suikoden I liked was 3, which was supposed to be the black sheep of the series, so that should explain some things about how I feel about the series.
I tried to like S1 but it was so boring. I don't even remember how far I got. Someone died and then there was a relative of Caesar's (Silverburg?) and then a sewer maybe? Ugh the game was not fun. <.<

I watched Caller play Suikoden I. It looked like a game made with RPG maker the first time I saw him play it. Wasn't really paying much attention to it though Still not enough reason for me to fork money for a PS3 >_>

Suikoden 1 is an ooold PSX game, one of the first games I think was released on it. Though, the graphics in Suikoden 2 are generally the same. XD I picked up Suikoden Tactics again... let's see how long it takes me before I get pissed off about losing that one fight again. Thinking I'm going to have to flood the area with Mages, to protect him... but god I hate Mages in this game. The guy I'm defending is a mage too, but he's a Water Mage... so his offense is limited at best. I'll figure it out sometime, but for now, I'm doing random encounters to level up.

I enjoyed Suikoden 1 but it wasn't great by any means. If I had something else that was unplayed lying around I probably would have dropped it. So it is kinda strange that I would spend over 200 bucks on Suikoden II. It was a chance I took. Not a good chance at all considering that I found the first one to be mediocre. But I enjoyed that one a lot more. The battle system was the exact same from what I could tell but the story line was much more engaging than the first. I actually gave a damn about the characters and it was the first time in a long time that I was really looking forward to giving the main bad guy a smack down. It definatly wasn't worth the 200 bucks I spent on it, and to be honest, no game is. But, meh, I don't regret it.

I paid $81 for Suiko 2's strategy guide about 6-7 years ago. Regret spending that much, but oh well. I paid $100 for Suikogaiden 1 & 2 and a JP PSX about 7 years ago as well. Do I regret that? Hell no! Nashers FTMFW! Suikoden 2 is a damn good game... one of the best RPGs ever made, and you'll find tons more who agree with me. Suikoden 5's storyline is good like that too, however it takes FOREVER for it to get moving. The first part of the game can be very boring, but once it takes off, it's great. I need to beat it.

Ok I popped in Suikoden 3 last night. Only took me about 20 minutes to figure out where I was. I thought I was on Chris's story, but im on the other guys. Starts with a G... Runs with the Queen and Joker and them. Ack cant remember.
Anyway its not as bad as I remember. I dont like that I cant control all 6 characters in battle, but it is still a lot of fun. lIke level 30ish and just got one of the stars from the village that Chris burned down. At what point do the stories merge?
I guess I dont get how the castle will work in this one since you have 3 heroes instead of just the one nameless guy. Does one eventually rise up as the leader?
Also played a tiny bit of 1. going to rescue the bandits I got captured. Woo hoo! ive just leveled a bit on this one, got to level 10 so far. Not as far along as I want to be I have just been really busy.
I know story wise they are out of order but I plan on playing 5 next, then 5. then I might play through 2 agian.

The stories do merge, when you meet the Flame Bringer, the guy who holds the true fire rune. I think you get to pick who you want to control from then on out, but it's been a long time so I can't remember. You get to pick one of the heroes to be your leader. I still have not picked Geddoe as a leader yet though, only Chris and Hugo. The game seems to want you to pick Hugo though, but I still seem to lean towards Chris. After the stories merge, you'll have to give true runes to Hugo, Chris, and Geddoe through the storyline. Hugo should get Fire, Chris should get Water, and Geddoe should get Lightning. That's pretty much how the game wants you to choose, but you can choose differently. Those are the most effective choices though. However, I think whoever gets the Fire rune, becomes the new leader. It's been forever, so I can't remember. Suikoden 3 sort of takes off slowly, but I still think it is one of the best, if not the best storylines in the series. It's perhaps not as epic as Suikoden 2, but it covers what the runes are really like, and starts to shed some light on Harmonia, but they never continued afterwards. I want to play this again for the story, but I dunno if I will or not yet. Still playing Tactics, and I'm finally progressing in the storyline, thank god.

I was never too into the "True Runes" concept. It didn't interest me. What I liked about Suikoden (so far) is that its a war based RPG. I've never seen that before. Sure you have games like FF6 where there is a war going on but Suikoden's was more realistic I found. I kinda wish the series would stick to that instead of involving some out of this world, magical concept. But thats just my opinion.
