Went to the store to get a PS3 at the new low price, and found that the new ones WONT play PS2 or PS1 games! SOny futzed with it to lower the prices, but took away options! I have been stalking EBay, and found an 80gig at a good price, that has a handful of games, and 4 controllers, and all the cables including the HDMI cable. I left my higest bid, and went to bed. While asleep, someone jack up the bid by $5 till they passed my bid, and the auction ended with them the winner. I always wonder if its the family of the seller that does that. its been 10 days, I heard from the seller that the last highest bidder defaulted and didnt pay for the item, and they have no email contact in ten days. Wanted me to pay my "highest" bid for the "buy it now option". I refused. Said I would pay my LAST bid BEFORE the hit and run bidder. He futzed, and said he needed the money...blah blah...wah wah...I stood my ground. He emailed me today that the item was mine at MY price if i would use paypal and pay within 12 hours. Done! So, I saved the $50 that the hit and run bidder jacked up the price by, and got a nice lil deal. I got the old style PS3 that is completely backwards comp. nice!

Backwards compatibility is what makes the PS3 so great imo. I can only say that cause my PS3 has been used for pretty much nothing but. That guy that sold it sounds like a real weiner. Trying to get you to pay the money the other dude bidded for. As if his financial problems are yours. I am glad you stood your ground. ;D
Now you are set and ready for FF13

Just got a nice letter from the seller. I guess his kids want to play Xbox more than PS3 so he doesnt have any use for the other stuff that went with it. He is throwing in the PS3 games he has, and the 2 extra controllers he has. He said he felt bad that he was pushing me this morn. Feel bad or not, I will take it! He advertized it as an "adult only played" game system, and then tells me his kids bought games for it....hmmmm, lets see what this looks like when it gets here. I got confirmation from Paypal today that a shipping label was printed for my order with a tracking number.
I went to Game Stop and got Lil Big Planet, and Obliviion for it. I didnt know he was gonna throw in the PS3 games, so I wanted to be ready to test it out.
Wooo! FF next chapter....here I come.

Awesome Dejibo (aside: now she'll never come back to City Folk. ). lol. LittleBigPlanet is a MUST OWN, imo, for the PS3. Its awesome. If you ever play online with it, let me know. We could play co-op on some levels. Fun! Such a GREAT game. The PS3 is going to have a racing game next year called Modnation Racers, where you can create a character, race tracks, and your own racing kart. So, if you like Mario Kart, but wish it had a bit more of what LittleBigPlanet has, well, you should check it out when it comes out. I know I'm looking forward to that one. IF you like platformers & blowing stuff up, I highly recommend Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. The next game, A Crack In Time, is coming out next week! I have it reserved & paid off. Can't wait to play it. If you like Action/Adventure games & Indiana Jones-like gameplay/etc, I highly recommend Uncharted 2. Its really great. If you enjoy Oblivion, but wish it had some guns in it, then you may want to try Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition. As for RPGs, not too many on the good ol' PS3 at the moment. Though, if you have your PS3 online, well, you may want to get Wild Arms 2 or Suikoden if you like old skool rpgs. Of course, there are plenty of PS1 & PS2 games to play. Thanks goodness for the backward compablity. Which reminds me, I have to start a new game on one of the Final Fantasys soon. lol. Can't wait till Final Fantasy 13 comes out on the PS3!! Its going to be awesome. (bring it out already Square!!) DF2506

You will probably enjoy Oblivion. It's almost exactly like a MMORPG, but minus the other players. Tons of NPCs, quests, places, and stuff to do in general. Like I said in the email today, I've been playing for over a month and I'm still no where near complete with anything. But, I'm also slow, and on my 4th character. We're aiming to get an Xbox 360 at Christmas, I hope I can progress to the new age of games soon.

Its kinda hard to progress to the new age of games. Some have been great for sure but this generation, more than ever, seems so focused on shooters.

FYI the new PS3's are going to have backwards compatibility. They are going to have the software available for download. Now if its free... no idea. I still have my lovely launch PS3. I love playing PS1 and PS2 games on it.

I heard that rumor too, that Sony was going to make a "patch" or "firmware" update that would allow for backwards compatible. Even if you figure all that in I got the PS3, 17 PS2 games, 3 PS3 games, all cables, inc HDMI, AVI and 4 controllers, and 2 usb cords. All for $366 not bad! The new PS3 would cost $300 with one controller. Each controller is $60 and each game is $40 or so used. so, I still made out in the deal.
Woo!

My PS3 cost $600. Thats for the 80 gig brand new. Back when it was still kinda fresh off the release date. That is a sweet deal you got. 600 bucks all so I could play MGS4. That's the real reason I bought it. I don't regret it. Although I do use it mostly for its backwards comp. Don't play too many PS3 games on it.

I highly recommend Uncharted 2 to anyone who likes action/adventure games. Its great.
Thats a great deal you got dej. I can't remember how much I paid for mine. lol. But I do own the backwards compatible one. Although, I think the new slim one looks better & I think its cool that it has more memory.
Oh! Another game that you guys might be interested in if you like action rpgs (like Diablo) is Demon Soul. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks really interesting. I hear its pretty challenging too. Also, Dragon Age by Bioware looks like its going to be good (it comes out in November. I think Demon Soul is out now).

I have seen them go on Ebay for 600 to 700 dollars. I am happy IF he sends the damn thing.

I heard Demon Soul has lots of flaws but is also a ton of fun. I might check that out. And Uncharted 2 is a game I have heard nothing but praise for. I am also interested in that. Although I don't remember hearing anything about an Uncharted 1 so hopefully the two aren't related story wise. Kinda like how you can't play MGS4 withouth playing the previous 3 just so you "get" the story line.

knock on the door today, and its the mail man with a HUGE box. its the PS3 with all those games. they are mainly basketball/baseball, and sports stuff. yick! I can easily take them to gamestop and get some credit for um. I am trying to figure out this dang thing since he didnt include the maunual that comes with it. I managed to find the utility, and have downloaded the PS2 utility, and switched over to my network. I am registered as Dejibo if you wanna look for me. its been some trial and error, as I expected to just slide the disc in and have it work. oh well, I guess I will spend the day formating and cleaning, and re organizing this beast. They run pretty hot too!
Lets see how far I get

Yeah, the PS3 gets hot pretty fast. I have mine in a compartment below my TV which has a glass window thingy that can be opened or closed. My first time playing my PS3 when I got it I had the window thing closed and the PS3 froze and told me to turn it off cause of it was getting hot. I opened the window and stuck my hand in and the air was soooooo hot. I play with the window thingy open now that I know. I still stick my hand in from time to time and it feels slightly warm so that ventolation from keeping the space open really helps.
The 360 is nowhere near as bad. Sometimes I play with the thing closed and that never really gets too hot.
