Hey current and former players that may one day come back:
SE is phasing out the PlayOnline viewer, and there are rumors of PS2 versions being dropped completely after 2011. To this end, all players must link their accounts to a SquareEnix member account. There are instructions on how to do this on the playonline website. It's kind of a pain to do, but you only have to do it once.
KEEP IN MIND that if you now or in the past ever paid with a VISA card, you are required to have it under 3D Secure (aka Verified by Visa) or SE will not accept it. There will be instructions on this if you enter a VISA card. It costs $1 to do this, and you only have to do it once. Do not lose your PIN number once you do this though because VISA charges $5 to reset it.

Finally got the Rambler's Gaiters I wanted for BLM & THF. Managed to make the most of the farming, got about 50k worth of stuff, sword and throwing skill. Next on my list, there's an AWESOME!!1 staff that you can get in the inner horutoto ruins: wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Numen_StaffWill be nice for soloing stuff as WHM later on. I can't use it now, but one day. Also want the gothic set for my WAR and future jobs that can use em.

Got off lazy ass and got 85. Next party I get will net me 90, finally. Last limit break was stupid, yet cute at the same time. Degenhard and Maat face off in a deathmatch, and I have to help Maat win. I lost the first time unfortunately. Rather hilarious to see two old codgers trying to kill each other. Next thing I know I'm in the bushes, head first, with my legs dangling in the air. >.>
Will be 90 soon, then I will start meriting. I enjoyed Dom Ops more than I expected, I liked it better than the other type. The bonus armor seals were nice too, even if they are absolutely random.
I gotta buy my AF3 anyways, need to see where to buy it at.

You can buy the new AF gear?

Don't get so excited. I can buy 4 pieces of mine, the others drop. What you get is AF3, but it's not so great in comparison to the other armor at those levels. You have to get items from NMs and other methods to upgrade them to AF3+1, and then I dunno how to get them to AF3+2. The +2 is really good, obviously. Here's a comparison: This is AF3, before augmentation. wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Charis_Attire_Set - Now look at the +1 and +2 sets linked on the same page. This is what I'm wearing right now: wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Aurore_Doublet_SetThe thing I was doing last night, Dominion Ops, gave those upgrade items, once per game day. However they're totally random, so I got items for PUP, MNK, SAM, and BST. No DNC. I can however, play dress up with my new dress until I upgrade it. XD

I'm 100% convinced you can't get a seal for the job you're currently playing. Because I've been doing Dom Ops for almost 2 months and have yet to get a seal on a job I was playing. You can get seals from the CSNMs but apparently the drop rates are also random so, no one's really into it.

I gotta do some other thing to get my charis pants. I heard it could be soloed though. As for the charis feet, they drop in Vunkerl I think.

Won't be able to level tonight, just discovered that my step mother is planning another yard sale, and may be in my house to find stuff to peddle. Oh boy.

Spent some time farming my black magic scrolls since the tier 4 spells are all 100k or more, some are 300k+. Still need Fire and Water IV. We did get the Ve'lugannon (sp!) Palace map though, and about four red mage testimonies in a row... <.<
/duck
THF is just so immensely useful at 90, I'm not only invincible, I rake in the items. I don't kill very quickly but whatever, I don't die. Mark has me thinking about MNK next. Maybe. I'm not really into the whole heavy front line DD thing. SCH needs 45-50 too. This is why Yue is and will always be my sole character. I hate leveling subs!! XD

Oh so you get the normal stuff easy and then the upgraded version, the better versions, are what you have to work for , huh? Sounds like a neat system.
I remember back when I played the AF that involved a certain quest were the most fun to do. The ones that had you killing mob after mob for a coffer key and then hunting around for a coffer were not very fun at all. I enjoyed getting my DRK AF helm. Fighting those three weapons.

The old AF quests are still there. The newer jobs though, you essentially have to buy the AF. I quested the chakram, body and legs, but the hands, feet and head piece were bought, so to speak. I had to buy materials and then give them to a NPC for him to make the pieces. Wasn't cheap either. The legs were a pain in the ass, had to wait for an item to drop, which took a few hours. The weapon was a NM, and the body was a silly mini game quest. AF2 is still dynamis only. Remember the augmenting system I spoke about a while back? You can buy weapons with points as well, and the weapons come with random augmentations. Like for instance, I got a dagger with +4% critical hit damage on it. wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/YataghanHoping to do more Dominion Ops to try to get a better one than the one I got. Tellin' ya Norfy, FFXI is a completely new game nowadays. I don't ever expect to come back to WoW at this rate, things are just so much more enjoyable now. It's easier to level than ever before, people go from level 1-90 within weeks now. Of course, there's a whole new breed of stupid because of that too.

MAYBE I will. There is a ton of stuff for me to do in WoW right now though. If levelling up is easier then that is a great incentive to come back. What about making gil? Is that any easier? That is also what I am loving about WoW. When my guild unlocked the heirloom helms I pretty much went bankrupt buying them all. But it didn't take me long to do Tol Barad questing and Herbalism to get my three level 85s back up to 1500 gold (and still going up). So if gil is easier to make and the level up process isn't a pain like it was then I will for sure consider coming back.

Yes, that is also much easier. People buy the armor sets you can buy with Cruor, the currency you get while doing Abyssea. You get a LOT of Cruor. You buy the armor sets, like the one I linked earlier, and vendor them for roughly 7000G for each piece. This also works with the other currency you get for doing Abyssea related activities. Money is no issue anymore really. If you came back as Norfair, you could go straight into Abyssea and start raking in the EXP and Cruor. And then gil.
Even if you are a lowbie, you can still make cash. Mercenary's Knives sell for a decent amount, and there are several NMs that spawn each hour that drop items that sell for 5k-20k a pop. Doesn't sound like much, but seriously, things are much cheaper.
The economy is better now days. Things are cheaper in general.
BCNM40 is a decent money maker too. Phalanx is big bucks now, because PLD gets it in the later levels. I sold a scroll of Phalanx for 500k a few weeks ago. Utsusemi: Ni is still expensive, even more so now I guess. Last I checked it was over a mil.
The RMT are pretty much all gone too. ;D
Yue and Yvondith are doing Windurst missions right now as well, if you came back you could join us and get rank 10. We've been able to duo all of our missions so far, or trio.
