Yeah, that's the impression I'm getting from the game already, grind grind grind. Still, character creation interested me very much.
Right now I'm still just goofing off, haven't decided on a server yet. I see the "West PvE" servers are pretty packed, so I want to check out the East PvE server. Guessing it probably means Europe - Asia. If so, I'll probably go to Sanctuary Server.

Double post, sorry. I will be playing on Dreamweaver server. It's Eastern PvE, but from what I saw today, all english speaking people, and it's not as crowded as the other servers. I created a winged elf named Saekeion, she's got a cool Valkyrie feel, which I love. I also want to make a male character too. Dunno which will be my main, but I'm still leaning towards playing a guy seriously for the first time.

The game has surpisengly good graphics. Its not the best but considering its a free game it has a very nice look to it. Most, if not ALL, Korean MMOs are heavy duty on the grinding. A former coworker told me about Fly FF (FF stands for "For Fun"). And the grind on that is INSANE. I think he said you grind to 100 then you work on Masters or something. Which takes you back to level 1 but slightly more powerful than a normal level 1 and you re-grind all the way to 100. So you get level 100. Then Level 100 Masters.....or something like that.

Wow... that sounds like a total pain in the ass. But, whatever floats your boat I suppose. But who knows, it might actually be fun.
I told Tim what I was playing and got an "ew" face, dunno what his problem is.

YOu have got to be kidding. I have to download the game in 8 parts? Screw that.

You have a choice. Download it in 8 parts or in one big file. Thats what I did. Unless they changed it.

Phantasy Star Online in and of itself was a grind too but something about that game was just addicting to play. It was an action dungeon crawling RPG though so that probably helped cuz we like both here. The problem I have now is thanks to WoW I'm so tired of quest driven leveling because it ends up being the only worthwhile (efficient) way *to* level in those games. So I'm curious to see how this new one works. If it's just constantly fighting to level up using WoW's boring combat system I'm staying away. I'm already biased against it since it's so much like WoW and since I don't like WoW...well you see where I'm going. Not even LotRO was able to keep my attention because it's pretty much WoW in Middle Earth...and I started playing it when I was on my rabid LotR kick so I hit the ground running with it and still lost interest. >.>

How do I put this...
These kinds of games are notorious grinds to get max level.
Most of them are also designed around soloing to the max level, then grouping for everything.
Perfect world does incorporate quests in it. It is trying to appeal to the US market, and quests are apparently what we like. So combine the questing in WoW, divide it by half, then incorporate trying to solo in Final Fantasy XI. Maybe not THAT bad, but it can take a long time to grind a level in this game.
I got the game running. Stopped at character creation. Stupid work.

I downloaded one small file, which apparently was the downloader, which in turn started downloading a huge-ass 2.5GB file. It took 12 hours for me, cuz I am on a rather slow connection. But, I succeeded in downloading without alerting anyone, so points for me. Tim asked me if I had already downloaded, and sounded absolutely relieved that I had. Little bastard. From what I see yeah there are tons of WoW quests in the game, go here kill these etc, but thankfully quest items seem to be 100% drop on these monsters. Unlike WoW's kill 20 raptors for one brain... Seems like you could ignore quests and just grind as well. I like what I see so far. I don't plan on getting too serious, just something to goof around on when I'm bored. When I get bored of grinding, I'll find something else to do.

Those kinds of quests are in most, if not all, MMOs. Long before WoW was even thought of. EQ, Asheron's Call etc.

Final versions of my two chars, the beautiful Saekeion, and my bishie, Fhreidyn. Of course, neither of them look this good in game, but... still pretty awesome.
