I've been looking for a few weeks now, trying to find a decent free MMORPG to play, since I really can't afford WoW anymore.
Anyone know of one that isn't extremely PvP based? Was considering Runescape since my little brother plays it, but from what I understand it's heavy PvP, and I just can't get into that sorta thing. The others I've looked at have been like an anime fanboy's wet dream or exact clones of WoW...
If I can't find a decent free game, I think I'm just gonna have to give up on MMORPGs all together.

Ok let's see.
Runes of Magic. Basically a free wow clone. Decent graphics dual class system similar to ffxi. And overall a good game. Has a good population too.
Free realms. I can't get into it but I do enjoy the art style. You have to pay for some advanced classes but the free portion is pretty big. Kinda kiddie though.
Sword of the new world. Huge fan of this. Wish I could play it in os x. You control three characters at once. You have a huge world to explore and the graphics are great. I highly reccomend this one. Always have a healer in your party though. You won't be disapponted.
Atlantica online. It's a turn based mmo. Surprisingly it works. Try it.
There are lots more. I will ha e to check mmorpg.com and see if I can suggest anymore.

Lawls maple story...
Not really a full MMO, but it's a good way to piss away time and feel like you're on acid at the same time. >_> <_<

Try Perfect World. pwi.perfectworld.com/I have an account and I play it every now and then. I don't have a super high level character cause I usually only play it before work on Tuesdays while Blizzard is doing their server resets. It is a decent MMO. Nice graphics. Your typical, Korean, grind fest MMO. Controls a bit clunky though. But I don't mind the game. If you've ever seen those adds at the top of the forum that say shit like "never looked so pro, never looked so raw" etc. thats that game.

I was playing Atlantica online, but i think I am gonna look at Perfect world. its turn based. Atlantica was good, i cant remember why I stopped. I also played LastChoas which was very close to WOW. I really liked it, and stayed with it for a while. it had missons to learn the ropes, and I liked the characters.
Give several a try. let us know which one you pick, maybe I will come too.

Thanks for all the suggestions. ;D I'm going to check em out at night, when I can download in peace... if I download in the day, Tim gets angry with me. He's had a fit over the other two free ones I downloaded. I've tried Fiesta, but it was too cutesy and anime for me. Also tried 4Story, but how much it blatantly ripped off WoW and FFXI kinda disturbed me. Seriously, look it up... it has tarutaru, mithra, and galka clone characters, set in WoW's enviroment. I looked at Perfect World a little, but didn't download it, because I was downloading something else at the time. It seemed to plug itself as a virtual fashion show, which I could probably go for. After all, it's all about the clothes, right? The others, I haven't looked at. But, I am trying to avoid kiddy and cutesy type games. Hoping I can find something Caller and I can both enjoy, or play with you guys. We'll see. I know I can count on Dej to play with me.

/nod /joy /s yep you can count on me.
just tell me which one. remember to completely remove the old ones, they leave loads of crap behind. Use Ccleaner.com to get rid of all of it. That way you are eating less space on the HD.
Windows 7 is due out soon, and I will go computer shopping. Will pass this one to you when I find one.

Actually I use Revo Uninstaller, it goes behind and cleans out the registry entries, and other garbage these leave behind. Also use TweakNow Reg Cleaner to find anything else is left behind.
Uninstalled FFXI a few days ago. Will probably uninstall WoW too, but haven't had the heart to yet, cuz I know I can go back easily with a trial account. Just wish it wasn't so restricted.
Edit- Gonna download Perfect World tonight, looks interesting. What server are you on, Norfy?
Wanted to look at Sword of the new world, but website appeared to be down... Atlantica Online's website was a little confusing for me, but I will look later if I don't like Perfect World.

un installing FFXI was VERY hard for me to do. I took it off my desktop, and left it on the lap top just in case. I took out the wi fi link from my bedroom, so I cant play PS2 unless I have to hunt for the gizmo, and hook it up. That takes effort. I LOVED playing that game, but I must tell you, after spending time away from it, and re gaining my footing in my real life, I am happy that i quit. It was a time hog. 3 hours just to check your del boxes, and reload the AH. Pick a job, get dressed, and haul your butt to where you wanted to start the game. You havent gotten a party, or hit the first mob, and 3 hours has gone by. I promise, it will be easier as time goes by. The WOW, you can just reload and pop in a password. FFXI would take a day to reload and update.
Im proud of you!

Probably won't get in to the game until tomorrow or later, it's taking forever to download the client, and I don't know if this is including patches or not.

OK I've installed Perfect World. WOW, Character creation in that game is amazing. Thinking I'm going to make a guy, with those sort of options...
Norfy, what server are you playing on?

I can't remember the server name. Don't worry about me though. I usually only play Tuesday mornings cause Blizz is doing their server resets. As such, my character is super low level. So choose whatever you want. If I do decide to play a little more I can always create a new character on whatever server.

I played in the Beta for Perfect world. The problem I had with it was it was so damned grindy.
It was a pretty nice looking free game though.
