Got Last Remnant and the reviews are spot on...frame rate sucks and so does the popup texture and the animations...are wonky. But it's a blast to play and the story so far has my attention. Plus the main character looks kinda like Norfair in his FFXI iteration. image.com.com/gamespot/images/2008/267/939444_20080924_screen057.jpgThe "technical difficulties" in no way are detracting from the game so far. It's annoying and you can NOT ignore it but it doesn't make the game a chore to play like a lot of the reviews are saying...even the timing in battles is rarely affected (though it'd be nice if they *warned* you when you needed to time your keys). So far, so good. EDIT Wrong game'd <.<

He looks like a girl though. And he's human. LotR isn't known for girly male characters except for the elves. XD The only thing that kinda strikes my curiousity about the game is the Hobbits. The main characters, Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin (and Bilbo before them) were pretty much the only Hobbits that left the Shire for adventure and stuff yet in the game you can obviously see lots of Hobbits running around adventuring. Which, in a way, kinda nullifys that idea. Is there any sort of explanation for that? Also, how does the game play group wise? Not that I have any interest in playing. I'm just curious.

I knew someone would see my mistake before I fixed it. I meant Last Remnant up there, and that's Rush, the main character from that game. But I'll talk about LotRO anyway! Grouping has commands called Fellowship Commands that show up during certain situations (that I have yet to encounter...). There are four types and each race gets their own four, but they all seem to do the same thing...Healing, Attacking, Supporting, and...that other one. Well anyway if you and your fellowship inputs Fellowship Commands in a certain order (again, I haven't gotten to do them yet) you can seriously debilitate the enemy, restore a ton of Morale (health), or do extra damage. Burglars are supposed to be the experts at this but I haven't grouped with any yet. The Hobbits that run around in Middle-earth are "Adventurers" just like in every other MMO out there. But the lore insists they still like to "ignore and be ignored." It's just that Hobbits are very popular. I've only done a couple instances with a group because I had to for a story quest, and I've grouped for some nasty mobs in quests, but they tend to disband immediately following the mission. Some of the instances can be pretty long though, and some require crowd control and finding the correct path. It reminded me of Promyvion in a sense, only without the threat of raping if you DO screw up. There are plenty of ways to recover from a bad situation. ...oh and they fucked up Tom Bombadil's song. HAY DO MERRY DO ME HEARTY!!! What is he a drunken pirate?!

Oh that was Last Remnant you were talking about. Yeah, I saw commercial for it once (never heard of it before then) and while I was lookng at it I was thinking "that kinda looks Final Fantasyish." and I was even thinking of FFXI in particular. Then I saw the Square-Enix logo at the end of the commercial and it made sense. LotRO just had an expansion recently did it not? I saw Mines of Moria in Wal Mart and it made mention of a Rune class that I remember you comparing to Death Knight in the WoW thread. I played a bit of Fable 2. It seems fun o far. I don't like how you can't create your main character though. Its one of those RPGs that has you taking on the persona of the main character and you can choose to be good or evil but your only choice at startup is whether the character is boy or girl. And they name the character for you (Little Sparrow, wtf?) so it kinda defeats the purpose. XD

Yeah preordering that expansion is what is allowing me to get $10/month instead of the $15. I can't see any of the content yet because it's mostly 45+ but it was worth it for the reduced payments.
Still playing TLR, I'm sooo happy to see a game with actual lip synch. Seems like godzilla just wouldn't die lately. They even have perfect tongue synch. >.> Or whatever you'd call it.

He's right, you can train them to say all sorts of things, they obsessively ask you to tell them a new greeting to say, and eventually one of the characters will come up with a nickname for you (like Champ) or maybe ask you what your nickname should be. The choice that the guys and Nintendo chose, well that was surprising. But you could probably get them to say Horse shit donkey balls, and they'd do it, assuming you didn't run out of spaces in the input screen. Been thinking about picking Animal Crossing DS up again, it's a fun game.

Well now that you say it... I usually told them something stupid like "Hey there!" or whatever. Though I have to admit I lol'd when I saw the " ♥ u long time" Woulda been better engrished, which means I'll probably make them say that next time I play. Hated Baabara anyways, she's a bitch. >.>

I can give you mine, but I dunno them immediately... I'll have to start a new town anyways probably, I haven't been on the game in about a year. I dunno yet. I'm sure DF would give you his, but I haven't seen him around at all lately. Hope everything is OK!
I got Harvest Moon DS and Harvest Moon It's a Wonderful Life for PS2 today, both together for $20. I love these games! Dunno which I wanna play first though, probably the PS2 game.

Harvest Moon is always fun. I really only played the SNES version so I'm sure the series has a ton more content and stuff than what I've played. I'd love to play a new Harvest Moon game.

I can't make up my mind what I want to play recently, which is a good thing after months of not really wanting to play anything. I got The Last Remnant and Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories and I'm chugging away at both. Though, I got to Larxene in KH and she's suuuuuch a whore I dunno how I'm gonna beat her. TLR is starting to get borderline non-linear, so that turned me off of it for a bit. But both are good games despite this.
I'm seeing TLR getting *slammed* for its technical issues and I won't lie, those problems ARE there, and SE isn't fooling anyone, this is SaGa under a new name (and a --sometimes-- linear path), but I think it's fun to play when you have so much to manage and it's SIMPLE to do it. Simplicity is not a bad thing and I see far too many games these days trying to tack on extra crap that just makes the game a chore. The story is what FFXII should've been, before the aliens, and minus the not-scary fan man. It even has Beauty Basch! >.> Seriously there's a man in this game called "The Conqueror" who has Basch's face (and barely-there beard)...only he has long flowing blond hair. THE poster boy for Herbal Essences lemme tell you.
KH will hopefully never go back to this card system (cuz it's oh-so-fun to run around like a retard while trying to find the right card combination while trying not to get killed) but at least it's easy to understand once you realize what the hell you're doing I guess. And it's worth it for the story that I never got to see. Hey, for $30 why the hell not?
Between the two though I'm not finding much time to play them thanks to work but I gotta finish them before the end of January when the new LotR game comes out for Xbox. Must have. >.>

I didn't know it was a SaGa game. Square-Enix annoys me. Pretty much every game they make that doesn't have the Final Fantasy name on it is treated with apathy by the company and is underdeveloped. All of their new ideas are born premature and are thus forgotton easily. If they could show the same interest in their other projects like they do Final Fantasy maybe they could reclaim the RPG glory days they had back in the SNES and PS1 era. Cause damn, they had lots going for them back then. Sure, the Enix side had Dragon Quest VIII and Valkyrie Profile 2 that were recieved well but it seems like they too are just living off the Final Fantasy milk. They havn't been contributing any more than the Square half really. It sucks seeing your favorite developer turn into one you don't care for much anymore. Especially since RPGs have been on the decline the last few years. You get a few here and there but its not like how it used to be. Being known as the dominance in RPGs SE could capitalize on that decline with some great games and maybe Last Remnant wouldn't have those problems. I'm not saying the game sucks as I have not played it but those issues aren't exactly helping it become a memorable title. In any case, Konami and Capcom ftw! They may not be RPG developers but they havn't been letting me down at all

Yeah after battles a stat that you used in the fight will rise and you have a chance to learn new abilities if you choose Attack or use an existing ability enough times. The game has a linear story but you're allowed to go off the beaten path at any time to complete side quests (and there are a LOT of them) and there are tons of dungeons, fields and towns that have *zero* to do with the game, they're just there to explore and get more quests. Just like SaGa. It even has the absurd not-even scaling that SaGa has. Y'know, when you're kicking ass in one dungeon, but then you go to the next and you're practically oneshot? Yeah. That's here. But that's what the side quests are for (also like SaGa) so you can become stronger. On the plus side it's really hard to overlevel because of this system. You can spend hours doing side quests and the main story boss will still make your life a living hell. Which is a good thing mind you. What I do miss from SaGa though is the ability to string your special moves together to do combo arts. The game has the ability to do it -- monsters do it -- so I don't know why they didn't let the heroes do it. Sounds like a rant, and I'm no fan of SaGa, but I don't hate it (well, I hated the first), so this game is pretty decent. And btw, Valkyrie Profile isn't Enix, it's Tri-Ace, Enix just published it. So there's another notch in SE's sword. You're completely right about them favoring their main series instead of branching out but they know that people will always buy the next FF or DQ just because of the name. Disappointing...but smart unfortunately.
