Tried out Home again last night. Why do I punish myself so? lol. Seriously, Home is so...ugh. Looked at Xi and I just don't get it. Went to the new Resident Evil 5 space and while it looks pretty cool there's just...NOTHING TO DO THERE! People are just standing around, doing nothing, its pretty pathetic, imo. So much lost potential...
Also, played a little bit of Resident Evil 5. Though, I'm kind of getting to where I might want to trade RE5 in. Its a cool game, but replay wise...well....its OK. I've seen better. Anybody have any recommandations for cool PS3 or Wii games?
Of course, I'm playing Animal Crossing: City Folk a lot.
Wish something cool would come out for Wiiware or especially the Virtual Console (where are all the 64 games?! ) tomorrow, but I don't see it happening...
I do also wish there was a cool new turn-based rpg to play, but there doesn't seem to be any of the Wii or PS3...

Pssst. Eternal Sonata. Its "turn Based" but its also kinda not?
You have a tactical time where you can plan, but its pretty quick. you move your characters around the arena, and you have a limited amount of "attack Time"
So its fun, and kinda turn based.
This generation freaking sucks for RPG's. I heard there is something coming on the wii but I dont remember the name.

This generation as a whole is kinda lack luster. Although I appreciate what Capcom did last year with the Bionic Commando port and the revisit to 8 bit with Mega Man 9. Very clever, Capcom. Way to know what your audiance wants Parasite Eve has been fun. I discovered the Warehouse level. This is something I never noticed before. I tried it out. Its pretty hard. I was able to beat the giant crab boss but I got killed by a frog on my way out. The reward for the crab boss is a rocket launcher. I'll go back and get it after I get a few levels. I'm about to go through the sewers. The sewers was the only part of the game I never liked. Hey, Kikaro. Don't know if you heard about this or not. But these super, ultra nerds are recreating servers so people can play the original EverQuest plus the first two expansions. It will use the old school interface and all that. From what I read, after the third expansion the game kinda lost its original quality so the purpose of this recreation is to make everything thet exact way it was before that. Back when the game was in its prime I guess. Having never played EverQuest I will definatly look into it when its out. All they ahve now is an IRC. www.eqclassic.org...and a video. Be ure to read the description

THey cant legally do that though... Sony owns all the rights to that.
I will check out the website when i get home. God the original interface would be scary. It was terrible and only 1/4th of your screen was actually the game because of the interface.
God I miss it though. It was so fucking hard, I just dont think I could do it again.

Yeah I saw it in this video, This guy talks about the original game and talked about what the differant things on the screen were. It is pretty small view screen. Very basic. But it was the building blocks to future games.

Kikaro: I played the demo for Eternal Sonata (back in my 360 days) and while the graphics seemed good, I didn't care for the way overhead point of view so I never tried the actual game. Its a pretty good one?
Oh and I believe the rpg coming to the Wii is called Arc Rise Fantasia. It looks pretty good. I'm keeping an eye on it.
I do agree that this generation sucks for rpgs. Man, I just know there could be some amazing turn-based rpgs these days with the graphics and storage space there is. They'd be huge on the PS3.
Norfair: I think, overall, I agree with you. There are some awesome games this generation, like LittleBigPlanet, but I don't think any of the systems: Wii, 360, PS3 have really beaten the PS2 yet for the amount of cool games there was on that system.
There are some cool games coming for the PS3 and a few for the Wii, but I think both systems need to really put out more amazing games that are not sequels. OH and as I said before, I'd love to see some cool turn-based rpgs...
Anyway, I played some Animal Crossing: City Folk. I also tried to play some LittleBigPlanet with Kikaro online, but the server was not working for us. Ugh. Not good.

I think turn based RPGs are pretty much dead now. Well, not dead. But they are not as popular as they once were. I think its cause people state side are too impatient with that kind of battle system and are wanting something more action oriented. Which is unfortanate. I love me some turn-based RPG fun. I beat that boss in the warehouse and survived the journey out. I also went through the sewers (its not as much of a pain ass I remember) and now I am going to go through the museum chasing Dr. Klamp around. I've got some pretty solid body armor that automatically uses a healing potion if your health gets too low and a nice handgun that fires three shots at once. I'll be using this gun until Maeda gives me the "named" one. Love this game

I am itching to get a new game, but dont know what to get. Think I will replay FFXII and see how that goes. I rushed through it the first time I played it, and since I am forbidden to play the FFXI right now, I am bored! My headaches are dramatically better, and it has made a HUGE difference to not be intensely staring at the screen and not being able to blink for fear of being aggroed, or killed. With normal games you can just hit pause and or look away. I have missed it greatly, but the improvement in my health has been so dramatic, I am not sure I should go back.
on my way to game stop. I hope I find something fun.

I was so mad about Little Big Planet last night. It wasnt my connection cause I tested Warhawk and got right in with no problems.
I tried even going to a custom level by myself and it wouldnt let me join. So frustrating. Sorry DF> We will try again.
That was pretty much my night of gaming, working around trying to fix technical issues in Little Big PLanet. I really wanted to show DF the Level I have been working on and see what he though.

I don't think turn based RPG's are dead, it's just that it costs so much money to develop on the "big" consoles these days that turn based RPG's aren't made as much 'cause they're not exactly the big money makers... (except maybe FF, but that's not truly what you'd consider turn based). If you look on consoles like the PSP and DS then I'm sure there are quite a few turn based RPG's around. Although I'm not really up to date with what's going to released on either console, I'm sure there are a couple of turn based RPG's in there too. For sure, the hand helds this gen definitely win when it comes to RPG's. And to be honest, as the RPG genre is rather small (in terms of generating profit) then I expect this trend to continue for the foreseeable future. That is at least until home brew game development really takes off. (Think to the future possibilities that a game like Little Big Planet could offer.) Oh and virtual game stores. Both of these will alleviate the spiralling costs of development, which would help smaller studios and genre's with a smaller market share. But for me personally, it's hard to predict what will be the case. Saying that, it is the entire gaming industry that is struggling with high development costs. It will be interesting to see how, as an industry, it is dealt with. It's still a massive problem, and as consoles become ever more complex to develop for... I personally can't wait to see where the next gen will go. I imagine a very much more Nintendo / Wii orientated direction... Anyways, enough crap from my mouth. I'm currently playing Twilight Princess on the Wii again. This is only my second play through of the game, but I am loving it. I find I am appreciating it much more this play through than my first... not sure why. Maybe because I rushed through it? I dunno. In any case... it feels a totally different experience than I remember and I am loving it. I'm only on the second dungeon, but I've taken it really slow up until this point. Just did the duel on the bridge and I couldn't remember it being that epic. I really, really loved that this time through and think it's one of the best Zelda moments in the series. Speaking of Zelda, there is a new one announced for the DS if anyone didn't know. It's called Spirit Tracks and it's about... trains. Exactly how is at this point unknown. I'll reserve judgement for now, but to be honest I'm going to get it whether it looks/sounds crap or not. It's Zelda. >.> Also another game I'm considering is Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume. I quite like the look of that so I may pick it up. If anyone gets it post about it. Later Edit: Oh and if you want a turn based RPG... why don't you get the FFIV sequel when it comes out?

Good points, UC. I think with the high developing costs also comes the knowledge that there is an economic crisis going on right now which is not helping one bit. Lots of game companys are having to shut down a few locations, even a few have gone bankrupt. The company that made Mortal Kombat (Acclaim I think?) is selling the rights to Mortal Kombat to the higest bidder then theya re shutting down their doors. It sucks for these companys.

They spend all this time and effort into these games, and a lot of the people who buy it just shrug it off so quickly. Surely makes the developers feel really bad at spending all the time making the game. Star Ocean 4 is ragged on back and forth about some simple things (Though they surely win the argument about the story...). They have to spend an eternity just getting the "next-gen" graphics to work properly before they can even think about doing anything else. Probably detracts them from even wanting to do anything else XD
Speaking of Star Ocean, I'm in the extra dungeons now. Not-so-hidden extra boss #1 was fine until his last 25% of health... then he spammed a move that kills you pretty much instantly. Beat him without too much problems, but he gets harder every time you kill him. I'm sure he'd kick my ass now.
Second hidden dungeon has the other not-so-hidden extra boss. You have to go through a 7-10 hour dungeon (depends on what you have to do for the conditions) to meet her... and if you lose, you cry. Cuz then you lose all that work. Actually, from what I read, you have to get the materials you find in this dungeon, leave, make the super weapons/armor, come back, and then go up the 20 floors again to beat her up. Oh... and be lv.180.
I'm already 170 so I'm almost have that requirement!

The story is really starting to pick up a bit in Eternal Sonata. I had a 30 minute cut scene last night. The only downside was it was time to stop playing and this cut scene just wouldn't end LOL. Good scene, but I was unprepared for the length of it. (I like long cut scenes, Xenosaga was wonderful)
Im about 22 hours in now, and it looks like I have my entire party. I was a little irked that Prince Crescendo and Princess Serenade were only playable in the mirror area. They talked about how you could use them in the PS3 version, and thats a 20 minute area with them. Crescendo is an amazing fighter so its sad that I cant use him elsewhere. At least I think this is the only time I can use him.
I havnt been this drawn into a console game in so long, im having fun. Allegretto and Polka are starting to have a relationship too, and its actually very sweet. Not thrown in like other games either.

So the final boss of Parasite Eve. On the boat. What an asshole. His first two forms are a breeze but that third one is ASS! I was able to beat it. Then there is that fourth form but it goes down in like, two shots with Maeda's gun. But after you do that it chases you around the boat and you need to lure it to the engine room. On the way there you have a choice of going left or right. Left takes you the engine room, right leads you to a dead end and your death. So, guess which way I chose? Lets just say I didn't beat the game tonight like I was hoping too. XD

STats show when given a choice most folks go right. I always chose left just to go against the grain. Americans go right to merge, to give right of way on the sidewalks, and crowds.
I wonder if most UK folks go left? hmmm....
